Passport Photocopies

U.S. federal regulations require the submission of the student’s passport.

Texas State University’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will require color photocopies of passport documents to have the following characteristics:

  1. The passport must be in good status (not expired or voided).
  2. The passport submission must include the photo of the student/dependent.
  3. The passport submission must clearly show the student’s name within the bottom, machine-readable, portion of the document.
  4. F-1 students must have passports that are valid for at least six months past their date of admission to the U.S.
    • If your country appears in the Passport Agreement List, the six months requirement does not apply, and your passport only needs to be valid on the date of entry to the U.S.
      • NOTE: When you click on the link above, look for and click on the question: "What if I have an expired passport or one that will expire in less than six months?". The list of countries should appear once you click on this question.

SEVIS Record Transfer-in Students: Important Considerations

  • Transfer students must begin classes within 5 months of the last day he or she attended classes (or ended OPT), or the next available session, whichever comes sooner.
  • If a student completes a course of study (or OPT), the student is eligible for transfer through the end of the 60-day grace period.
  • If you are planning on traveling abroad you must re-enter the country with the I-20 from the school that holds your SEVIS record at the time.  If your release date occurs when you are abroad the Texas State International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will have to mail you the transfer I-20.
  • A student's authorization for OPT or CPT ends on the transfer release date or the end of the work authorization whichever one is earlier.
