Upon initial entry to begin a new course of study, an F-1 student may not begin on-campus employment more than 30 days prior to the actual start of classes. F-1 students are limited to 20 hours per week while school is in session and can be work more than 20 hours per week during official school breaks.
In order to work on-campus, F-1 students will need a Social Security Number (SSN) and have an active SEVIS record. The SEVIS record must be in Active status before an F-1 student can apply for a SSN.
NOTE: All new F-1 students will be activated on the 12th class day of school (census date).
This form should ONLY be completed by a new F-1 student who has been offered on-campus employment with a start date before the census date.
The hiring department will need to write a SSN hiring letter, confirming the student is hired (Department SSN Letter). The student will submit a signed offer letter on department letterhead below.
