All international students must report to the International Office for check-in. Please call our office at (512)245 7966 to schedule a check-in appointment as early as possible after you arrive. Check-in is a three part process:
Deadline for appoinment with International Office to Check-In and create file for copies of your immigration docuements within 15 days of the program start date on your I-20 (Preferably before rather than after the program start date).
Apart from the Graduate Orientation or Undergraduate Orientation, you must also attend a mandatory International Student Orientation given by the International Office for all new international students. This orientation helps you successfully adjust to living in the United States and covers topics such as immigration laws and regulations, employment opportunities, how to apply for a Social Security number, and more. A complimentary meal will be served.
Academic issues, such as class registration and class payment issues, will not be covered by the International Student Orientation. You must contact either the admissions office (Graduate / Undergraduate) or your academic department about these issues.
Texas State University requires that international students have health insurance. You will be automatically signed up for the standard university policy during payment for classes, or you can procure another policy of your choosing and have it approved by the Student Health Center before paying for classes to avoid the extra charge. See Texas State Health Center for international student insurance infomation. At the very bottom of that page are several links, including a link to a letter from the director of the Student Health Center as well as links to instructions for requesting an insurance waiver.
If you are transferring from another US university, and have not requested that your old school fill out a Status Verification Form (download), please do so as soon as possible, and return the form to our office, so your SEVIS record can be released to our university, allowing us to generate your new Texas State I-20. Of course, new F-1 students coming into the U.S. for the first time will already have their I-20s issued by the Admissions Office.
