International Student Orientation


What is New International Student Orientation?

This orientation is a session held by the International Office at the beginning of the semester. The purpose of the orientation is to provide new international students with information on:

  • maintaining their non-immigrant status
  • medical insurance
  • tax issues
  • employment
  • other issues related to international students

Important Note:  All newly admitted freshman and undergraduate transfer students must also attend the New Student Orientation offered through the Undergraduate Admissions Office  in addition to the International Student Orientation.  These are two separate orientations.

I-20s, SEVIS and Protecting your non immigrant status
In order to remain in the USA you must maintain your F-1 status. Government regulations you must carefully follow will be discussed.

Traffic laws, use of alcohol, signing contracts (e.g. apartment leases)

Academic Rules
Avoiding misunderstandings and consequences related to cheating, plagiarism, etc.

Helpful information about security and safety at TEXAS STATE
11:30 AM Session 6
Employment Opportunities
On-campus employment, off-campus employment including curricular and optional practical training and economic hardship.

Medical Insurance
Medical insurance information while studying at Texas State

Tax Issues and Q &A
Non Resident Alien Tax issues and answers and referrals to questions you may have regarding sessions 1-7 or other issues.

Helpful information on financial assistance and managing your money and banking.

Mentoring Program
Information on how to participate in the Texas State Mentoring Program.
1:15 PM to 2:00 PM Lunch, which includes vegetarian choices, will be provided. Relax and get to know other students and staff.
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM International Friendship Program If you are interested in spending time with an American family or single of the same gender for friendship and mutual understanding please consider attending this orientation.
