What is International Education?International Education involves the effort to educate people about the global nature of the environment in which they live, study and work. International Education at a university campus is illustrated by departments, offices, and organizations with international emphases like the Center for International Studies, the International Office, and the International Student Association. International Education takes place in the curriculum, research, study abroad, and instruction in intensive English to students whose first language is not English. There are also many offices within the University that have international components such as international admissions, the hiring of international faculty, and services and activities related to international students and scholars, including Fulbright Scholars |
IEW 2009, a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.International Education Week (IEW) is Really International Education Month (IEM) at Texas State. Since the activities at Texas State associated with IEW begin in the first week of November and end on or about November 20th, we are really celebrating International Education "Month (IEM)" at Texas State. |
IEW provides a unique opportunity to recognize international education. Events are held during the month of November but are not confined to the actual dates of IEW, which are November 16-20. This year’s effort was facilitated by Dr. Beth Wuest, Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences; Mr. Steve Wilson, Professor, Department of English; Mr. James Andrews, Director of the Offices of Correspondence, Extension and Study Abroad Programs; Ms. Linda Munoz, Interim Director, Texas State Intensive English (TSIE); and Dr. Bob Seese, Director of the International Office. The IEW website concept was created by the International Office. |
