Bob came to Texas State in 2000 and has been involved in international education for over 20 years. His experience includes serving as the Director of International Student Services/Associate Director of Admissions at the University of Houston-Clear Lake and Associate Director of the International Student and Scholar Services Office at the University of Houston. He taught intensive English in the People's Republic of China and in the U.S. In addition, he studied Chinese at the Beijing Language Institute. As a member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, he serves as a professional development trainer, specializing in F-1 and J-1 federal regulations. In addition, he has made presentations at regional and national conferences on reverse culture shock, Chinese culture, training foreign student advisors, training international admissions staff, ethics in international education and suspension of international travel. Bob is also a member of Tau Beta Pi and Chi Epsilon civil engineering honoraries and Phi Beta Delta, Honor Society of International Scholars.
Jon A. Ahlberg - Associate Director
Jon has been with the Texas State International Office since 1999 and has been involved with international education since 1986. Before coming to Texas State, he was the Director of the Institute of Intensive English in Honolulu, Hawaii where, in addition to managing the school, he was the immigration advisor. He has lived abroad on two occasions, both times in Japan. The first time was in the service with the U.S. Navy, and the second time was for four years in Yokohama teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). He has traveled extensively throughout Asia, Europe and Australia. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin, and a second Bachelor’s degree in Asian Studies, specializing in East Asian Studies, from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is a member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators.
Laura Cano Amaya - International Office Coordinator
Laura is the Coordinator of the International Office. She earned her bachelors in International Studies at Texas State and completed a Masters in International Relations at St. Mary's University. She was an academic advisor in the College of Applied Arts and the Coordinator of the Partners in Academic Student Success (PASS) program from 2003 - 2007. Prior to coming to Texas State she served as an International Student Advisor and Designated School Official (DSO) at Austin Community College and was the Vice President of the San Marcos Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
